Standard Ejector and Core Pins

The Dialog Window shown below is the Standard Pins Main Dialog Window. This is the first SoftMold function to support both Millimeter and Inch Units. This function is 'Unit Smart'. When you open this function the unit settings of the current part file are read and SoftMold standard pin function sets up accordingly.

This dialog window currently contains two pages.
Page One, the Pin Creator page is used to load a pin record into memory and create the pin.

Creating the pin
To Create a Standard Pin follow the steps listed below.

Select the Units
Use the unit control to select inch units or millimeter units. SoftMold allows you to create inch based components in a millimeter base drawing or millimeter components in an inch based drawing. The first time you used this function in any session the unit value of the active document is retrieved and the function is setup based on the active documents units. If you return to the function latter in the session the function is setup based on the last values you selected. The function remembers where you where.

Suppler List Control
Click the Suppler List Control and select one of the suppliers listed there. When you select a supplier the other controls are loaded with the appropriate values.

Type of pin
Select the type of pin you wish to create via the Pin Style list control. When you make a selection in this control the remaining control are loaded with the appropriate values.

Catalog Number control
Use the Catalog Number control to select the pin. When you make a selection in this control the available pin lengths are loaded into the Pin Length control.

Pin Length control
Use the Pin Length control to select the length of the pin.

Select the Drawing Style
Use the drawing style list control and select one of the available drawing styles. For details about the available drawing styles for Standard Pins, see Standard Pin Drawing Styles.



Pressing the 'OK' Button
At this point you have completed selecting a standard pin and the drawing style to use when creating the pin. When you press the 'Ok" button the dialog window will close and Keycreator's Position Menu ( shown below ) will appear. Use the Position Menu to select where to create the pin. Each time you select a position a pin will be created at that position. The default insertion position of the pin is on the center line at the bottom of the pin. The pin is drawn in the Z positive direction relative to the current construction plane. SoftMold allows you to create standard pins in any construction plane. Pressing the ESC key will end the creation routine and return you to KeyCreator.

StandardPins Data Editor

The Dialog below is SoftMold Pin Data Editor.This Dialog allows you to change the values of an existing pin record or add new records to the database. You can also copy or add a pin to your 'Favorites'list.

   Favorites List
You may add an existing pin or create a new pin and add it to your favorites list. To add an existing pin, first go to the Pin Creator Page and select the pin you want. After selecting a pin go the the editor page and click the new pin button. Clicking the "New Pin" button unlocks all of the edit controls. Go to the Supplier combo control and select 'Favorites'. Now goto the Pin Style Combo control and select an existing pin style or key in a new style. Edit the pin data as needed, when you are finished click the save button. The pin has now been added to your favorites list.



   Creating New Pin Records
To Create a new pin click the 'New Pin' button. Clicking the "New Pin" button unlocks all of the edit controls. Go to the Supplier combo control and select the supplier. Enter a catalog number in the catalog edit control. Now goto the Pin Style Combo control and select an existing pin style or key in a new style. Enter values in the edit controls as needed. Use the pin length combo control to create pin length records for the new pin. Press the 'Save' button to save the new pin to the data table.



   Editing Existing Pin Records
When you load a pin into the Pin Creator that pin record is also loaded into the pin editor. To Edit an existing pin press the "Edit" button. This will unlock the edit boxes and allow you to change the values. You can not change the supplier or the catalog number. These fields will remain locked. Change the values in the fields as needed then press the "Save" button. Your changes are not saved until you press this button. If you press the cancel button the data field are reset to there prior values and locked. You may add values into the edit controls then press the create pin button and your values will be used to create the pin.



   Pin Length Records
You may add and delete pin length records. To Add a new pin length record enter the length you want in the pin length combo then press the "ADD" button. If the length you enter dose not already exist it will be added to the database.
To Delete a pin length record use the pin length combo control to select the length to delete then press the "Delete" button. Do not try to delete the last pin length record. This could cause problems in the mold base function.






Standard Ejector Pin and Core Pin Drawing Styles

Below is a listing of the different drawing styles that are available.
Each of the different styles is explained below.




No Fillets
The pin shown to the left is drawn in the No Fillet Style. There are no cosmetic fillets. The pin is drawn at the nominal size.
Head Fillets
The pin to left is drawn with cosmetic fillets on the head of the pin. The pin is drawn at the nominal size.
Shank Fillet
This style create a fillet between the pin head and the pin shank. No fillets are created on the pin head. The pin is drawn at the nominal size.
All Fillets
This style creates fillets on the pin head and a fillet between the pin head and pin shank. The pin is drawn at the nominal size.
